About EDU510: The Cognitive Science of Teaching and Learning

In this course we will be exploring the implications of cognitive science research on acquisition of knowledge theory. This research will be analyzed in terms of its applicability to teaching and learning. The emphasis during our exploration will be on practical means to facilitate learning relative to attention, memory, motivation and problem-solving. Through the readings and related activities you will develop a depth of understanding of cognitive principles and means of teaching/training that foster the transfer of learning.

Whether you are in the Teaching and Learning, the Instructional Design and Technology concentration, or Higher Education Administration concentrations the principles we explore will be applicable as you progress through your course of study.

What you all share however, is the broader label of “ educators” who are responsible for facilitating the learning of others. This course will provide you with the knowledge needed to understand the “minds” of your learners and knowledge of the underlying principles of effective teaching/training.
